Keira’s IN!

June 18, 2008

Yesterday, i reported that Emma Watson, Hermione Granger in Harry Potter, has replaced Keira Knightley as the face of Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle Perfume. It turns out that the news isn’t true. Yup. Chanel Reps has come out to say that Watson has not replaced Knightley and the gamine pirate star will continue to be the face of the perfume line.

So, there you have it. Now you know first hand that the news is false!

Changing Chanel

June 17, 2008

It seems that Keira Knightley has been replaced as the face of Chanel’s Mademoiselle perfume. Emma Watson, of Harry Potter fame, has reportedly signed a $6 million contract with Chanel and will therefore be fronting the Chanel perfume line come this fall. On the other end of the spectrum, Knightley has recently been fending off anorexia rumours once again.

Ah well, celebrities VS celebrities. if the anorexia rumours are true, she is therefore hungry and out of job. Life must be a f**kin’ bitch for Keira Knightley now!

Editor’s note: I‘d really like to apologize for the lack of posts recently. I’ve been terribly busy with this project i’m working on. It’s going to be hot! So haute, it’s Mayy-Juh! I’ll tell you more once i’ve completed at least 70% of things! in the meantime, stay tuned and much love for the continued support!

Whoever said that fashion has no heart? Supermodel Kate Moss teamed up with Starlight Children’s Foundation recently to launch her very own special charity tee for her latest collection for Topshop. These fabulous tees, designed by Moss herself, will benefit the Starlight Children’s Foundation focussing on terminally and seriously ill children.

The Supermodel-turned-fashion mogul has set her hopes high in raising £75,000 for the organization which will enable Starlight to grant an additional wish for a sick or terminally ill child every week over the coming year. How fabulous!

Apparently, Moss is not the only one with a heart. Socialite and recent mother, Nicole Richie, has also pledged her support for Charity. The It Girl was seen wearing a charity tank top for Signorelli’s Angel Collection to benefit the Children’s Health Fund.

The Signorelli’s Angel Collection tanks are available in The USA in major stores like Fred Segal & Kitson while Moss’ tees will be available in Topshops across England this Friday.

The fashion world mourns the death of what is probably the most iconic designers in the industry – Yves Saint Laurent. Saint Laurent, 71, died Sunday night at his Paris home after a yearlong battle with brain cancer.

g

Born on Aug. 1, 1936, in Oran, Algeria, Saint Laurent first emerged as a promising designer at age 17, winning first prize in a contest sponsored by the International Wool Secretariat for a cocktail dress design.

A year later, in 1954, he enrolled at the Chambre Syndicale school of haute couture lasting only for three months in the school. He was then introduced to Christian Dior, then regarded as the greatest creator of his day, and Dior was so impressed with Saint Laurent’s talent that he hired him on the spot.

When Dior died suddenly in 1957, Saint Laurent was named head of the House of Dior at age 21. In 1962, Saint Laurent opened his own haute couture fashion house with partner, Pierre Berge.

In a remarkable five-decade career, Saint Laurent empowered a generation of women; his ground-breaking brainwave of putting women in masculine yet chic tuxedoes was a defining moment in fashion. Saint Laurent’s designs celebrated the growing empowerment of women and their increasing sexual liberation, dressing them in thigh-high leather boots, see-through blouses and his legendary black tuxedos, or “le smoking” as the French referred to them. Saint Laurent was also the first designer to use black models, in another example of his path-breaking role in fashion. He was also the first designer to put women in safari jackets and Beatnik looks, items that seem so familiar now, but when first displayed on his catwalks scandalized the general public.

We will forever remember this true icon and the fashion world has definitely lost one of its most celebrated and legendary icons of the 20th century.

Heel-ing powers

May 21, 2008

Nothing can ever be compared to wearing a pair of well-made, expensive heels – from the original holy grail of fabulous heels, Salvatore Ferragamo, to modern day craves such as Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo.My love for shoes women’s heels started when i first watched Sex & the City. Carrie Bradshaw’s obsession for shoes the like of Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo got me hooked on finding the perfect pair of well-constructed heels. And these gorgeously-made heels come with a hefty price tag. I mean who in their right mind would pay $500 for a pair of shoes? I honestly thought these are dreams only fictional characters such as Carrie Bradshaw and Hollywood starlets would be able to fulfill. However, interning for a fashion magazine taught me otherwise. Apparently, a lot of women are willing. Isn’t a shoe just a shoe? But that doesn’t seem to be the case when one is discussing or wearing a pair of Manolo Blahniks, Jimmy Choos or Christian Louboutins.

Carrie Bradshaw walked into television history in a pair of very high-heeled Manolo Blahniks that anyone West of Manhattan even knew what these shoes were. And once Carrie got mugged on the street by a thug who snarled, “Give me your purse…and your Manolo Blahniks!”, we all, and i especially, knew something must be special about those heels. Sex & the City opened the floodgates for expensive well-made heels. And a pair of Louboutins became an obsession for me! I remember the episode when Miranda’s water bag burst on Carrie’s new pink Louboutins – my mouth fell opened as i clutched my imaginary pearls and screamed out “NAY!!”. That was my favourite scene and a pair of Louboutins became to me what Manolos were to Carrie – an addiction.

Seriously nothing, and i really mean nothing, says it all like a pair of Christian Louboutin does. The red-sole stiletto king knows how to make some of the hottest heels in town and it’s no secret that only he knows how to make the foot look more desirable and erotic than a naked Jessica Alba. It is with this in mind that Chritian Louboutin heels are mainstays amongst Hollywood starlets as the choice footwear for any red carpet events or for everyday traipsing.

It is a well-known fact that Christian Louboutin’s creations force the hips to sway a little more and cause the wearer to strut instead of walk. Slipping on a pair of Louboutins is not mere adding of accessories to complete an outfit – It’s called making a statement and a bold one at that!

Ok i have to admit that i have neither the opportunity nor the privilege to slip my feet into a pair, i mean, being a guy, it’s almost impossible. Not that i have never tried. But i mean with size 12 feet, i’m almost certain it’s impossible. However, when i was doing my internship with Project Smitten, I had the opportunity to come into close contact with a few pairs of exquisitely constructed Louboutin heels. I remember bringing it back to the gorgeous Emerald Hill office, up the 4 flights of stairs to the attic (we Smitten-Kittens are always at the top; the height of fashion – in every sense of the word) and presenting the Editor with those fabulous patent leather heels. The first thing the Smitten girls did was to put the heels on and started running about the attic. So comfortable were they that the Beauty Editor climbed onto the table and started hopping up and down, testing how well-made they are and if they were going to make her ankles scream out and beg for mercy. It turns out, slipping on a pair of Louboutin heels was like wearing a piece heaven. I could only look on in envy. If only…

And right now, i just can’t wait for the new Sex & the City movie!

So a couple of weeks back i wrote about assisting the Fashion Editor of Female for a fashion spread. Today i’m happy to have all the pictures scanned and uploaded! YAY! it’s so exciting to see one’s name on an official national fashion magazine, even if it was just as a ‘Stylist Assistant’. Hey, it’s a step in the right direction! Check out the last picture – i simply LOVE every single one of the billowy white dresses/jumpsuits from Stella McCartney! Anyway, I owe this all to Terence, the fabulous fashion editor of Female magazine. Here you go!

We’ve seen the new LV ( a joint venture between Richard Prince and LV) being featured on the S/S 08 Louis Vuitton Campaign. Now, The Bon Bon is making its appearance on the arms of the rehabilitating (riiiggghhhttt) party gal Lindsay Lohan. I can’t even begin to explain how wrong the fabulous Bon Bon looks on Lindsay. I mean, were her shades on when she picked this ensemble? Whatever. We still love the Bon Bon anyway. Good enough to eat, just like candy! :)

Style icon Sarah Jessica Parker, who as Carrie Bradshaw only wears designer clothes in Sex & the City, has reportedly outdone herself by creating what the new York Times has called ‘the cheapest dress in the world’. The summer dress from her Bitten clothing line is sold at retail clothing chain Steve & Barry’s. The flowery sundress is not only stylish but is priced attractively at US$8.98 (S$10)!! Pure Hawtness! Who says you have to spend a bomb to look fabulous!?
