Off the minute: Gisele top model earner!
May 3, 2008
Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen remains the highest-earning catwalk queen after raking in more than 35 million dollars last year, Forbes.com revealed on Wednesday.
Bundchen, 27, may have ended her long-standing agreement with Victoria’s Secret in 2007, but the blonde beauty still has around 20 contracts and has appeared in ads for Disney, Nivea and Aquascutum.
Bundchen, the former girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio and current partner of American football star Tom Brady, earned more than double the second highest paid model on the list, Germany’s Heidi Klum.
Klum, 34, earned 14 million dollars through her modelling, media and fashion business interests.
Third on the list was British supermodel Kate Moss. Despite ending campaigns with several high-profile labels, the waif-like icon was able to net around 7.5 million thanks to the success of her fashion line.
Moss also continues to work for Donna Karan, Longchamp, Agent Provocateur, Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli and Rimmel, Forbes noted.

Spotted: Upper East Side’s former resident party bitch giving the former party queen a panic attack with her unannounced appearance at Constance Billard School for Girls. Trouble descended on the Gossip Girl set Monday in the form of former Sunnydale resident Michelle Trachtenberg as the legendary party bitch Georgina Sparks. Looks like something big is about to hit Upper East Side and break everything S has worked so hard to build. What is the big secret that G has on S that spells the end for the Upper East Side Queen? Be careful S, don’t play with fire if you’re not sure how to put it out. XOXO

Ok, enough of my stint as Gossip Girl herself. Let’s talk fashion – Georgina Sparks style. I love how she’s so different from the rest of the cast in terms of style. As much as i love the styles and fashion of the mainstays of Gossip Girl but let’s face it, between Blair Waldorf’s Jackie-O-always-pulled-together look and Serena van der Woodsen’s Kate Moss-inspired look, I was getting terribly bored. Luckily, salvation came in dark colours this season and formed itself in Georgina Sparks. Doesn’t she look evil? I love it!
what we love:

I’m loving it already. I love how the dark colours juxtapose with the all-too-bright-and-sunny colours of the mainstays. It’s Attitude with a capital A! The Upper East Side beauties are all spotting bright coloured tights (juxtapose that with G’s lam’e leggings) and even brighter trench coats and/or jackets. The arrival of G adds drama to the entire set. No one can deny how fierce she looked and not to mention beyond evil!
However, what i did loooovvvveeee from this episode were the bright coloured umbrellas that Little J and her minion were carrying. I would post screen captures but i am not a big fan of low quality pictures. so yeah. Somebody please tell me where they’re from!?
LOVES IT!

Gossip Boy is out!
April 23, 2008
OK, i’ve not been updating this blog recently, mostly because i’m still in school and having three non-examinable modules spell out disaster in terms of churning out essays the length of an Honour’s Thesis! I’m currently in the midst of finishing up my last essay on psychoanalysis and Hitchcock’s Vertigo. Bummer! I swear i’m churning out essays like a bakery churns out cakes. It is incredibly exhausting and in the words of the fabulous Christian Siriano, one hot mess
Alright, since i’m a big fan of Gossip Girl, which according to New York Magazine is “The Best Show EVER!”, i’m going to post about the big news every GG fan been talking about. Who’s OUT (of the closet)!? Lily van der Woodsen tells all.
So Upper East Siders, what will this new piece of information do for the show? Will we see more hearts broken? Are the Manhattan elites ready for a gay boy? I guess we have to keep watching.

That 70′s Show
April 6, 2008
Every once in a while, i would sit and wish that i was born in another time. Some time when i get to experience the ’60s – ’70s era: Woodstock, ‘make love, not war’ slogans, fashion – oh, the fashion of the ’60s were immaculate! And with that comes one of those few times when i wished i was born as a woman and in another time.

Two weeks back, i was assisting the Fashion Editor of Female on a spread for the May issue and it was all about retro/hippie chic. I remembered steam-ironing the clothes (from Prada, billowy white dresses from Stella McCartney, rainbow-coloured knitted cape from Missoni) and was completely in awe by the burst of colours. My imagination went wild, of course. I imagined myself lying down on a lawn somewhere just chilling to Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin or Jimi Hendrix. Of course, the real hippies don’t exactly wear Missoni, Prada or Stella McCartney but oh well, we all have dreams, no
It appears to me that ’60s hippie-inspired fashion is back and here to stay. Local magazines such as Project Smitten, Harper’s Bazar and international bibles such as Nylon are all featuring the retro looks, in line with the S/S collections on the runways.

Seeing the ’60s hippie-inspired fashion revived and resurrected on the runways this season taught me that the era was not just about drugs and experimentation; it stood for something much bigger, a larger cause, a movement that completely transformed society on the whole.
From colourful patterns on kaftans to using tons of chiffon, various designers have interpreted the hippie getup in many different ways. This season D&G, Prada and Roberto Cavalli, just to name a few, were all bitten by the hippie bug and showcased in their collection peasant dresses, bell-bottoms and long prairie skirts.
Present day fashion icons like Victoria Beckham and Nicole Richie have all been spotted proudly wearing their bell-bottoms out and about. The figure enhancing bottoms allow for a more proportionate figure as it hugs and flares out at all the right places.
However, the one thing that never fails to catch my attention and capture my imagination seems to be the one item that women gravitate towards time and again – peasant dresses. Perhaps it’s due to the fact chloĆ© has single-handedly brought them back to the fashion forefront or maybe that peasant dresses flatter almost every body type there is (I’m assuming it’s the latter rather than the former). Updated versions hug the body instead of hiding the womanly curves and the patterns provides that extra oomph, while ruffles enhances femininity.
Anyway, fashion is always cyclical. Reinterpretations (as it’s politely called in the fashion world) are all the rage now with designers citing ‘Old Hollywood Glamour’ and ’1920s’ as their inspiration. The fact still remains that all styles get recycled time and again (and some more so than others) and this definitely mean that the hippie style will inevitably make its comeback a few time over in the years to come.
Of local magazines
April 3, 2008
I haven’t been updating this blog simply because i don’t have the time. I’m juggling work, school, dance and my own personal life (which, at this point in time, is completely non-existent). However, i feel that i should revive this blog.
Anyway, i was flipping through the March issue of Project Smitten. As much as i like the magazine, i think they really need to be more meticulous about their presentation. The photos are not aligned properly and the Etro dress is severely pixelated which makes it very unprofessional. I know, i know. No one is going to notice such small, minute details but having read every issue of Harper’s Bazaar (both local and US) and TeenVogue, i’m very disturbed by the lack of precision in such a magazine that looks very promising. And don’t get me started on the snippets – Items wrongly labeled, alignment completely off – it really looks like a mock-up instead of the final cut.
Speaking of Project Smitten, i never did understand the idea behind using models who look like everyday women. I mean, would i rather see Hana Soukupova or would i rather see some random everyday foreign woman who happen to be a model? I actually asked myself that question. and the truth is, i’d very much rather see Hana Soukupova. Am i really asking too much for a fashion magazine?! Hang on here. I am not asking for the models to look like Bruna Tenorio or Tanya Dziahileva – i love them and i think they’re gorgeous but they’re also the size of my pinky. Models are supposed to look thin and editorial. Not pretty and normal.
*NB: when i say thin, i don’t mean anorexic. some are just naturally thin.
Having said that, i guess it works for Smitten. The spreads look good, it’s just not fabulous. Lacks oomph.
